So testing and doing a colour check chart is well advised. I also found that the colours on the screen came out totally different to the ones on printer. It does have its limitations as to what you can do regarding imported pictures etc. I purchased Model Builder a while back and although there is a bit of a learning curve, the program is basically simple.

Each time you add a download to the site, they give you $5 off your next purchase so that helps. I can see that I will be adding the other plug ins as I can afford to until I have the entire set up. If building them were as easy as designing them I would be set. I just finished a 3 stall engine house this afternoon after getting out of the salt mines. Moose, I just wanted to get my feet wet, now I find that I wind up making something with it every evening. If you have a question post it on the forum, they both monitor it and will give you the best answer they can. Not to mention several freebie downloads from other members of the forum. Evan and Shellys' site and forum have a lot of information that will also help you out.

That you can choose several different scales besides our divine one is another added benefit.īryan and Moose, if I can figure it out, it can't be too difficult.įollow along with the tutorial video presentation a couple of times and work your way through some of the provided design plans to get used to how to assemble the buildings and you should be well on your way to dealing with it. Mike, you will be glad to have it in stock, it is an excellent tool to get some custom one off designs to add to any layout.

It was original added by DrifterNL back in May (thank you) but was placed in the Scenery and Structures section.

I expect that to change shortly!īTW, a link to their web site is in our Links Directory in the Software section. Paper and cardstock models have always fascinated me although I have never actually built one. Shelly and I exchanged a couple of emails last week and, as a result EvanDesign is one of our newest members! At this point it looks as though it has a lot of options which is good but also means (usually) there will be learning curve of some sort! Of course, the wealth of different textures availablr is incredible. I have just done some initial poking around and hope to get more involved with it in the coming week. I too received a copy of the model builder software last Friday! It is my hope to do a write-up for Evan and Shelly regarding the use of this software and then a couple more regarding the plug-ins and building a building! I will work over this design some more with extra parts to impart more depth to the various parts before I call it done, but I wanted to see if it would actually allow me to do what I intend.

This is a stab at my first project to see how well things fit together, a small warehouse type building that even includes some graffiti on one of the walls. This all took less than two hours to come up with and while I have yet to have the time to tinker them together into buildings, I do have confidence in the software to take care of what I can conjure up into real objects that I can build up. These include a couple of sheds, a switch tower, loading docks, a warehouse and even an out house. One of the first projects I tried was a set of yard buildings that I wanted. You can even add photographs of real buildings and work them down into copies for your layout if you wish. It is quite versatile in being able to add more to it with either their plug in modules as well as things that you can add in the form of jpegs, giff and other formats. It is pretty much a drag and drop method of approach that lets you work with the various textures and styles of material that they give you to start with. Once I got it downloaded and installed, I found it to be pretty easy with a short learning curve.

When I went to install it, Norton Security software on my computer was giving me issues and to the credit of Evans Design, they were quite prompt in replying to my questions. There was communication all along the way, another plus. It took all of four days for them to send it to me. I know that Google has Sketch Up, and there are other programs as well, but it seemed to me after viewing the site this is what I was after.Īfter thinking about it for a while I did take the plunge and purchased the basic program, $45 from their website and the Graffiti Plug in, another $20. The general idea being able to come up with custom designs inexpensively.

I recently discovered Model Builder Software by Evans Design.

Being a fan of card modeling to build up things intended for a model RR layout, I have been casting about looking for a way to be able to come up with my own designs to fit my ideas.
